What Can I Do to Stop Abortion?

  1. Speak frequently on abortion, both by entire talks on the topic and by reference to it in other talks and presentations.
  2. Include mention of abortion in General Intercessions at Mass
  3. Place inserts into the bulletins of your parish. You can obtain these camera-ready inserts from us at Seminarian Life Link, which we will get from Priests for Life.
  4. Present pro-life topics in class. If you are given a choice of topics for a research project do a life issue topic.
  5. Invite pro-life speakers to make presentations at your seminary. If you need help in contacting pro-life speakers we have contact with many pro-life leaders.
  6. Have special educational evenings with speakers or videos.
  7. Use your parish bookrack to make good pro-life literature and tapes available. Contact SLL for samples of bookrack literature.
  8. Use your parish bulletin boards inside and outside the Church to convey a pro-life message.
  9. Encourage the setup of a permanent pro-life sign on the property, or have one in your room.
  10. Have readily available at all times concrete information about alternatives to abortion. Carry numbers to crisis pregnancy hotlines with you always, because you never know when a woman will come to you in a crisis. We must always be prepared. We will send each of you a card to carry in your wallet with numbers.
  11. Have information available on post-abortion healing programs like Project Rachel.
  12. Read good books and periodicals on the issue, consult experts and take advantage of resources provided by the local diocesan pro-life office or the Bishops' office for pro-life activities. On our website you will find a page of good resources.
  13. Establish some sort of memorial to mothers who have been killed by their abortion. A list of names can be obtained from Priests for Life through our office. Just email us and we will get the information to you. Once you have these names offer prayers for these women and their families.
  14. Have special days of voluntary prayer and fasting to end abortion.
  15. Participate as a seminary in the National Night of Prayer, held each December across the country to pray for an increased respect for life. Email us for information.
  16. Participate as a seminary in the March for Life held on or around January 22nd each year in Washington DC. Also on the day of the march there is a special pro-life mass for seminarians.
  17. Review the current pro-life programs of the diocese and discuss ways to foster them.
  18. Have an area-wide collection of baby and maternity items to assist a local crisis pregnancy center.
  19. Make sure that every priest in your diocese has the phone number of the local crisis pregnancy center.
  20. Have a Life Chain or march, with participation from many parishes.
  21. In individual parishes or jointly, sponsor the Rosary for Life. Have parishioners commit to pray the full rosary once a week, at the local abortion facility would be best, for an end to abortion.
  22. Network with all the local pro-life groups, especially your diocesan respect life office. See if you can assist them in anyway or if they can assist us in anyway.
  23. If you attend a pro-life conference or speaker presentation take good notes of the event and send the notes to us to post on the Internet.
  24. At least once a week, time permitting, spend at least an hour in a peaceful demonstration of love in front of the local abortion facility. You could pray or sidewalk counsel, or just be present as a representation of your seminary.
  25. If your area has a local college pro-life organization link up with them and work together to witness outside your local abortion facility.
  26. Send to our office any article that you find on pro-life related issues so that we can post it on our website as a resource for all.
  27. Submit copies of pictures of your pro-life group defending life to our office to post on our website.
  28. If you are preaching or just doing a preaching practicum submit copies of your pro-life homilies to our office to post on our website as a resource for others.
  29. Network with your local crisis pregnancy center and offer support.
  30. Add to your daily prayers the special prayers found on our website for an increase in respect for all life.
